Echinofossulocactus multicostatus

Native to the dry and grassy meadowlands of Mexico, this low-growing cactus is popular for its wavy ribs. These ribs are densely packed, usually with around 50 to 100 (or more) pleated together. This wrinkly globe is commonly known as ‘brain cactus’, most likely due to its resemblance. Scattered areoles are covered in a white felt, with one large spine pointing upwards, while smaller spines grow pointing down. Pinkish flowers are likely to emerge from the centre of the crown during spring and summer months.

Watering

Water thoroughly and regularly when soil is 100% dry during the spring/summer months. Refrain from watering during the winter months.

Light requirements

Full sun.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser 3 times between March - November.

Repotting

This species can live in the same pot for several years. Repotting may only be necessary once every 2-3 years (or longer), once roots begin to protrude out of the drainage holes. Use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage medium such as perlite, pumice or grit.

Pot size / height

See available sizes below. Please note that, due to their natural variability, specimens' height may be within 10-20% of the stated height below.
