Pachypodium succulentum

This slow-growing succulent is endemic to South Africa, and can be found growing within rocks in grasslands. Hardier than its other Pachypodium relatives, it can withstand particularly harsh conditions thanks to its thick caudex. Its stout stem can produce all sorts of shapes, making each plant completely one of a kind. Slim branches emerge from the tip of the caudex, with scattered spines and tufts of leaves which usually die back for the winter months.

Watering

Water when soil is 100% dry. Refrain from watering during dormancy.

Light requirements

Full sun.

Feed

Use a cactus fertiliser monthly between March - November.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years, or when roots begin to protrude through the drainage holes. Use a well draining cactus compost, adding extra drainage such as perlite, pumice or grit.
